Shabbat 0

As I prepared to light my final Shabbat candle in my childhood home I realized that I would not be returning for the next 127 days, which coincidentally also happens to be 18 Shabbats, Chai.

While planning the trip it was very important to both David and myself that every Friday night, at sundown, we be in a location that allows us to bring in Shabbat. Whether that be a Synagogue, a Jewish home or a Hostel, we want to be able to experience the magic of Shabbat from anywhere in the world. Though neither of us is Shomer Shabbos, honoring the Sabbath is something that is uniquely important to us, and not something I am willing to compromise while I am traveling abroad.

I feel that it is significant that David and I will be spending exactly 18 Shabbats on our trip, as if it somehow makes the trip all that more spiritual.

I am looking forward to a restful Shabbat at home and cannot wait for the next Shabbat in our first stop: ISRAEL!

Shabbat Shalom.
